GETHSEMANE CEMETERY
MARIETTA, CASS COUNTY, TEXAS
It is not known who originally gave the land for Gethsemane
Cemetery. The cemetery land was resold by Edd Conley. The
Gethsemane Baptist Church is not located on the same property as
the cemetery. The church was organized in 1860. Meetings were held
under Brush Arbors; first on Charley Higgins farmland, near the
homesite of the late Amanda Carter; second, on the late Maggie
Lewis place; third, the late Henry Favors gave land to build a
church & school. The present church was erected by Pastor L. J.
Haskins and church members.

LOCATION; From the intersection of Hwy 8 & 77 at Douglasville,
travel west on Hwy 77 approx. 14.5 miles, turn left onto CR 2888,
travel approx. 2 miles to the cemetery. This cemetery is about 1
mile before the Favor/Faver Cemetery.
Cemetery was read on 05-DEC-1995 by Charles Steger, Gerald
Hammock, John Livingston, Jane Nunn, Melba Tims, Irene Powell &
Kathryn McAlexander. Updated AUG-1997. Read south to north from
southwest corner.
This cemetery is known to be predominantly black.
The oldest known marked grave: ROW 2
